Celebrating International Credit Union Day: Q&A - Meet Sandi
Yesterday was International Credit Union Day. If you have been following our blog, you know that we have been posting a new blog everyday in celebration. We wanted to extend the excitement all week!
Thank you, Bonnie, Perry, Sandi and Michelle, so much for your participation. Based on your responses, our Simply Service® culture and the credit union difference shine.
Let's meet Sandi R.
Tell us a little about yourself. Briefly share the number of credit union years that you have served.
I work in the area of Risk Management which allows me to work directly with different departments within the credit union to serve our members. My passion is helping others and I use my skills to build structure, create programs, and develop controls to contribute to the forward movement of our credit union as we protect each member and the credit union they rely on.
I have happily served credit union members for more than 9 years.
When someone mentions “credit union,” what is one word or phrase that comes to your mind and why?
People helping people. Credit unions are known for seeing people and not a number. Here at PACU, we work unitedly each day to reach the goal of helping our members…we are a team. When someone mentions credit union, I think of community, membership, service, and belonging. All of those words bring to mind people and caring for one another. I am happy to have a share in such meaningful work of serving our members, the community, and protecting their interest.
What attracted you to the credit union?
I had heard that credit unions were service oriented and different from banks, I wanted to be a part of that by being “useful” to the member and not “using” the customer.
What similarities or characteristics do you share with the credit union?
I need for my work to be meaningful and I need to make a positive difference in the lives of others. Credit unions are about making a difference and I can say first hand that PACU’s brand of Simply Service is put into action every day.
Can you share a personal experience that highlights the sense of purpose and fulfillment that comes with working in the credit union industry?
Recently, while working on an unrelated project, I called a joint owner of a membership account because I noticed out of pattern activity on his 82-year-old father’s account. The son explained that the activity was indeed his father’s and provided insight into the activity. Before exiting the call, he warmly thanked me for the call and I could hear his sense of appreciation knowing that his credit union looking out for his elderly father. Just as much as his son appreciated the call, I appreciated the opportunity to serve.
Whether it is a simple call or writing policies, it is all done with the same kind of care and commitment to ensure that each member is protected and their interest is secure.
